New Democracy Statement on Alabama Supreme Court Ruling

Washington, D.C. – New Democracy Director Matti Miranda issued the following statement in response to the recent Alabama Supreme Court ruling: 

“This week’s Alabama Supreme Court ruling is detrimental and dangerous to American families and women and came as no surprise. This decision has tremendous impacts on Americans looking to grow their families, the LGBTQ+ community, and our country’s fundamental freedoms. 

After the repeal of Roe and the power to make decisions on our reproductive rights transitioned back to the states, alarms were sounding loud and clear about the further restrictions on individual liberties to come. At the state level, extremists have built a GOP machine that is dedicated to taking fundamental freedoms and turning the clock back on history. These extreme Republicans have made it clear they will stop at nothing to take away our personal freedoms, even at the face of putting people, especially women, in harm's way. 

“New Democracy and CNL members will continue to stand up for reproductive freedom and  access to affordable care in the continuing post-Roe world. Elections matter and we will continue to support Democrats at all levels of government ahead of 2024.”
