New Democracy Statement on DOJ suing Live Nation-ticketmaster

Washington DC - New Democracy Director Matti Miranda issued the following statement in response to today’s decision by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to take legal action into Live Nation-Ticketmaster.

“We will continue to be part of the movement which has been building across the country calling attention to unfair practices by Live Nation-Ticketmaster, a monopolist that controls an estimated 70% of the ticketing market and has substantial market power elsewhere in live events.

Live Nation-Ticketmaster’s anticompetitive strategies for stifling competition have delivered serious harm to fans, artists, and small competitors. Clearly, the 30 states that signed onto the DOJ’s suit agree.

We hope to see the break up of Live Nation-Ticketmaster as the outcome of this important antitrust case. Only a breakup will curb abusive ticketing practices for live events and protect fans, artists, and smaller competitors.”

New Democracy is the home base for center-left Democrats at all levels of government. Together with its grassroots arm, Center for New Liberalism, New Democracy is committed to building a broad and durable Democratic majority.
