Denver Mayor Homelessness Initiative

New Democracy has been alongside Denver’s Mayor, Mike Johnston, from day one. Since taking office as Denver’s new mayor (a new mayor had not been elected in over 10 years!), Johnston has hit the national stage with his bold action to end homelessness. Within 5 months of taking office, Johnston, his team, as well as many members of the community were able to house more than 1,000 people

In very broad terms: the mayor declared a state of emergency for the City of Denver, formed a coalition with the members of the City Council, neighborhood organizations, and residents themselves. It was, and surely still will be, a bold and creative campaign – just note the art that was donated to the effort, to make peoples new houses, homes.

Now, the Denver Mayor has a goal of an additional 1,000 unhoused to find temporary or long-term housing and build 3,000 affordable housing units.

We have topline highlights below as well as resources and links to helpful items – such as the Denver dashboard. We are encouraged by Johnston. We hope you are too.
